Nir Felder Trio

Called “the next big jazz guitarist” by NPR, Nir Felder is a new voice in instrumental music. Equally adept across a wide range of genres, inspired by icons from John Coltrane to voodoo chile Jimi Hendrix, Felder has forged a unique and highly recognizable sound at a young age and quickly become one of New York City’s most highly sought after musicians as both a solo artist and as a sideman.

Says Felder, “I felt like when we played, no matter who was in the band, the audience reacted in a way that let us know that what we were doing was something they felt was missing in their musical experience, something they thought was special. Whether they were commenting on the Fender Stratocaster I played or the compositions or the improvisation, the response was always that this was something new and exciting for them, something they felt strongly about.”

He has performed with, among others, Chaka Khan, Diana Krall, John Mayer, Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington (with whom he recorded the Grammy-winning “Money Jungle”), Vijay Iyer, Jack DeJohnette, Meshell Ndegeocello, the New York City Opera, Dianne Reeves, Joe Lovano, Snarky Puppy, Bobby McFerrin and Lizz Wright, at venues including Radio City Music Hall and the Village Vanguard and on major national televised programs including the NBC Christmas Special.

Seeking a more personal creative outlet, Felder first formed his own group in 2010, performing shows throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia.
He is also a member of the new co-lead all-star band Band of Other Brothers (with Jeff Coffin, Jeff Babko, Will Lee and Keith Carlock).

Felder’s critically acclaimed debut “Golden Age” (Sony/OKeh) has been called “absolutely beautiful” by The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, “lyrical and lofty” by The New York Times, “mesmerizing” by The Boston Globe, “a melodic triumph” by the New York City Jazz Record, and “mind-boggling” by All About Jazz. “If the hope, thought, depth and heart displayed on this recording are any indication, Felder sees his own golden age happening right now – and I wholeheartedly agree. A great recording.” – Downbeat Magazine Editor’s Pick.

Felder’s next release is slated for 2017. The new album, tentatively titled “Interregnum”, seeks to build on the direction established with “Golden Age” – taking jazz music in a new direction for the 21st century.

Sügisjazz 2017
ANDRE MAAKER & IAN ETHAN CASE (USA)

Ian Ethani peamiseks väljendusvahendiks on kahekaelaline kitarr, mida ta mängib omalaadse tehnikaga, luues mitmekihilisi helimaastikke, kus rütmiliselt aktiivsed mustrid põimuvad vabade ambient kõladega. Iani viimased plaadid on välja andnud mainekas USA plaadifirma Candyrat Records, mis keskendub just soolokitarristide loomingule.

Koosseis:
Ian Ethan Case – 18-keelne kahekaelaline kitarr, fretless kitarr, kalimba
Andre Maaker – 14-keelne kahekaelaline kitarr, 7-keelne klassikaline kitarr, cajon

Sügisjazz 2017
MARC DUCRET (Prantsusmaa)

“Soolokontsertide mängimine on minu jaoks alati proovikivi, esitan endale küsimusi, kus ma hetkel viibin muusikamaastikul ja kuhu soovin minna,” ütleb Ducret.

Laiemat tuntust lisasid Ducret’le Django Reinhardt’i auhind ning ajakirja Jazz Hot parima prantsuse kitarristi tiitel aastatel 1987-1989.

Marc Ducret praegused koostööpartnerid on kõige sagedamini prantsuse tipud – Andy Emler, Bruno Chevellion, Eric Echampard, Claude Tchamitchian, lisaks šveitsi trombonist Samuel Blaser ja USA saksofonist Tim Berne.

Koostöös agentuuriga “Vapaat Äänet”.

Jussi Lehtonen Band:"Move On" presentation Vol.1

Finnish drummer Jussi Lehtonen presents his new “Move On” album with his famous quintet, consisting only of Finnish best jazz-musicians .

He’s a phenomenal band leader, drummer and composer, whose musical abilities are at the top of the world!

Jussi Lehtonen – drums
Joonatan Rautio – saxophone
Teemu Viinikainen – guitar
Aki Rissanen – piano
Juho Kivivuori – bass

Jussi Lehtonen has composed a album of intense, colourful material inclusively for his debut album ensemble. All the quintet’s musicians have strong individual voices and they have acclaimed careers in leading their own bands. Instead of letting the visions collide, Lehtonen’s compositions have all the unique styles and voices complementing each other. Joonatan Rautio, Teemu Viinikainen, Aki Rissanen and Jori Huhtala truly sound like a band.

Jussi Lehtonen is one of the most sought-after jazzdrummers on the Scandinavian scene, and for a good reason: his choices behind the kit always serve the music. He also possesses a profound knowledge of the tradition, combined with a superb control of the instrument.

Lehtonen is an active figure in the finnish jazz scene. In addition to leading his own groups, he plays regularly with the top cats in the country.
Lehtonen has a lot of experience playing in small bands, big bands and working in the studio.
JL came to the scene through the band U-Street All Stars, an energetic jazz group that toured a lot and made two albums for the Blue Note- label. Since then Lehtonen has gone on to playing with practically everyone in the finnish jazz-scene.
Among the names Lehtonen has played and toured with:
Dave Liebman, Randy Brecker, Tim Hagans, Joe Lovano, Mike Stern, Bob Mintzer, Dick Oatts, Jukkis Uotila, Jerry Bergonzi, Rick Margitza, Frank McComb, Wayne Krantz, Aaron Goldberg, Marc Bernstein, Scott Kinsey, Antonio Farao, Jesse van Ruller, Johan Hörlen, Robert Nordmark, Karl-Martin Almqvist, Palle Danielsson, Gustav Lundgren, Stockholm Jazz Orchestra, Norrbotten Big Band, etc…..

Timo Lassy Band vol.1!!!

One of our all-time favorite, Timo Lassy and his all-stars band, will be coming to perform to our club after three and a half years of waiting- yeessss!!! 👌👍🤘

Ticket prices are 20€/10€ and we highly recommend to pre-purchase the tickets!

Timo Lassy is one of the leading artists in the vivid Helsinki jazz scene. He was recently noted as a “Rising Star” in the veritable jazz bible Downbeat, and his quintet ensemble, the Timo Lassy Band, was dubbed “one of Europe’s sharpest bands” by The Sunday Times in the UK.

Saxophonist-composer-bandleader Timo Lassy celebrates his 10th anniversary as a solo artist together with his Timo Lassy Band throughout the year 2017. After paying his dues as a sought-after freelance artist and touring as member of the respected The Five Corners Quintet Timo Lassy went ahead to put together a band which has played together with the same line-up since the first recording Soul and Jazz of Timo Lassy (Ricky-Tick Records 2007) and recorded 4 internationally recognized albums there after.

Filling clubs and concert halls In his native Finland he has become a hallmark of entertaining jazz which reaches out to large audiences. This positive, outgoing and swinging energy has been noted by critics, clubbers, promoters and most of all the jazz loving public. The corner stone of the bands approach has always been concentrating on their own compositions and own style in which also American singer Jose James seamlessly joined in live and on record (Round Two, Ricky-Tick Records, 2009).

Playing together as a band is the core factor in Timo Lassy’s musical expression and he always gives the opportunity for his unique fellow musicians to shine on stage. Playing the originals songs his highly skilled and erudite band mates: Teppo Mäkynen (drms), Antti Lötjönen (bass), Abdissa Assefa (percs) and Georgios Kontrafouris (piano, organ, Wurly) are right at home be it a club, concert hall or a large festival stage.

Timo’s fifth album to date, “Love Bullet”, is at the ready and it “lets the listener feel the holiness of Jazz.” (M.A.Numminen). Constantly selling out shows in his native Finland, Lassy is on the verge of becoming a force to be reckoned with on the international jazz circuit as well. Live, the Timo Lassy Band excels in getting into the mood of hardswinging jazz with gusto galore. The band is brimming with innovation, making this music very much “the art of now”.

The concept of jazz performance has strong rhythmic roots when considering the Timo Lassy Band. Their sonic base is in the 1950′s/60′s hard bop, soul jazz and latin jazz tradition, but the masterful execution and the progressive vision of all of the group’s players places the music firmly on the 21st century. Their jazz is easily approachable, yet remarkably deep at a closer look.

It is precisely this openness to both tradition and innovation, and the knack at combining the two that makes Timo Lassy Band a top draw in the current live jazz circuit. As a character, Timo Lassy embodies the rare kind of charisma of a contemporary jazz star. The content, the message, and the means to convey the both ensure that anyone looking for 100% pure high-quality contemporary jazz will be right at home with the Timo Lassy.
