Ingi Bjarni Skúlason is a European pianist/composer of considerable distinction and finesse, creatively seeking to shun boundaries in style or genre. Building collaborations that challenge and excite, especially with musicians from his Icelandic homeland and Scandinavia, his original works – informed by jazz tradition, Nordic folksong and electronica – rise up from a wellspring of meticulously-shaped imaginings; intuitive ideas inspired by relentlessly searching improvisation.
His two trio albums, Skarkali (2015) and Fundur (2018) – invited listeners into a realm of spacial freedom and vibrant expression. The trio has played at festivals like Jazzahead (clubnight), Nordic Jazz Comets, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and more. Recently the trio was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards as jazz performer of the year 2018!
