Emmi U. Quintet (FIN) is a modern jazz ensemble lead by pianist and composer, Emmi Karoliina Uimonen. Emmi U. Quintet consists of rising talents of the current Finnish scene of jazz and new music.
The compositions of Uimonen are influenced by classical impressionism and the long, melancholic melodies of Nordic folk music.
The smooth altering of thoroughly orchestrated and composed parts and improvisation shakes up the form of a traditional jazz piece and the combination of violin and alto saxophone creates a fresh sound for a jazz quintet.
Other art forms such as magical realism in literature and art films have greatly inspired the music too - some have said that they can feel the presence of the vivid visual pictures of the mind in the music.
