Before the beginning of the Russian war against Ukraine, Putin gave a long speech denying Ukraine's sovereignty and the existence of a Ukrainian culture. Obviously he did not study the history books well enough. Ukrainian culture is old, strong and has overcome more than one war. And it will overcome this one too. Come and see for yourself! The Berlin based Ukrainian singer Ganna Gryniva has been travelling in different regions of Ukraine collecting ancient folklore songs. Together with the amazing guitarist Tal Arditi she will be performing new arrangements of the old songs that were passed on by grandmothers and grandfathers from Ukraine.

Strong voice, string sound: Ganna Gryniva
– Deutschlandfunk Kultur (National German radio)

Ganna Gryniva aims to bring into play her multicultural background as a means of unveiling her musical identity. Recent highlights include collaborations with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Louis Cole, Michael League, Pedro Martins and Daniel Santiago for the realisation of “Heartcore for Ukraine”, a project of the Heartcore Records label of Kurt Rosenwinkel and Michaela Bóková. In August 2020, Double Moon Records and Jazz thing Next Generation released the album “Dykyi Lys” which received great recognition from the international music press.

On the guitar, Tal Arditi takes the space he needs. Out of quiet moments, he rushes forward with effects and distortion, and then withdraws again as if nothing had ever happened. This enables an enormous dynamic range and complexity. – Deutschlandfunk Kultur (National German radio)

In 2016 Tal Arditi graduated from the renowned Rimon School of Music in Ramat Hasharon near Tel Aviv with a jazz diploma. At the age of 18 he moved to Berlin. In 2020 Berthold Records released Arditi’s album “Colors”. The result is a rich, original sound that mixes jazz, rock and classical music with Brazilian accents.

Lineup:
Ganna Gryniva – vocals
Tal Arditi – guitar

Donations for organisations that help Ukranians in need will be gracefully accepted.

Entrance for Ukranians is free of charge for this and all the other concerts at Philly Joe's Jazzclub.

Koosseis:
Ganna Gryniva – vokaal
